U/16 H.C. (P2) Final
Mon. Sept. 30th.
Blackrock 3 – 20 V 1 – 11 Douglas
@ Pairc Úi Rinn.
Report: Roger ryan
Our U/16 Hurlers joined the list of Rockies teams who have scored 3 goals in a championship game this year. Our Seniors scored 3 goals in each of their games to-date, our Junior A team scored 3 when defeating Brian Dillons in the Q/F of the championship on Saturday and now our U/16 team can be added to that list by virtue of their great win over Douglas in the final at Pairc Uí Rinn on Monday evening.
Following an opening salvo of 3 unanswered points by our boys, Douglas had their first point on the 11th minute. He 15th min. mark the scoreboard read Rockies 0 – 05, Douglas 0 – 02. The Douglas boys gained momentum for a brief period and threatened to make a game of it but with 10 minutes to go Liam Cummins scored a spectacular point which kickstarted a further 3 points in reply from Rowan Moran, Michael Quill and Conor Stack which gave us a lead of 7 points at half-time 0 – 12 to 0 – 05.
Any hopes that Douglas had of winning this one were quickly dashed in the opening minutes of the second half when Shane O'Shaughnessy passed to Jack Punch who crashed home our first goal making it 1 – 12 to 0 – 05 At the 45th min. the board read 1 – 18 to 0 – 08 but just to be sure of victory our boys went on the goal hunt and Shane O'Shaughness bagged 2 more to bring our goal tally to 3. Douglas kept pressing and were rewarded with a late goal but it made little difference to the overall score. There were some excellent scores throughout the game, but overall this was a really outstanding performance by a well disciplined and talented team.
