Our Senior hurlers picked up 2 valuable League points at the expense of a very lively Charleville team at Church Road on Friday evening. Played on the perfectly manicured pitch which looked resplendent in the Summer sunshine, the game turned out to be a very lively affair with lots of scores by both sides. Niall Cashman had our opening point and when Kevin O'Keeffe scored the next point, Niall added his second point to put us 3 points ahead. Charleville scored the next 2 points and then Kevin, Robbie Cotter and Cathal Cormack had a point each to keep us ahead by 4 points 0 – 06 to 0 – 02. Charleville had the next 2 points to keep in touch but Robbie (1) and Kevin (2) pushed us ahead again by 5 points 0 – 09 to 0 – 04. Totally against the run of play Charleville struck for a goal. Buoyed by this score, they then added 5 points without reply to lead by 3 points 0 – 09 to 1 – 09. Kevin with 2 points and. Mark O'Keeffe with 1 point soon had us back on level terms with half time approaching. A long ball into the square seemed destined for a point but somehow Robbie trapped it and banged it to the net to give us a lead of 3 points at the break 1 – 12 to 1 – 09.

Alan O'Callaghan and Daniel Meaney made an appearance for the second half. A Charleville opening point was answered by by a similar score from Kevin to retain our 3 points advantage. A Charleville point reduced our lead to 2 but we responded quickly with 2 points from Fionn Coleman and 1 point each from Robbie Cotter, Peter Linehan and Michael O'Halloran to leave the score at Rockies 1 – 18, Charleville 1 – 11. Joe Golden and Darragh Browne entered the fray at this point. Charlevilles next point was quickly answered by similar scores from Kevin, Robbie and Fionn to leave the score at 1 – 21 to 1 – 12. Charleville had the next 2 points and these were answered with 1 point each from Ryan Sweeney and Niall Cashman to push us 9 points ahead with time running out. In the time remaining Charleville scored 2 points and on the stroke of full time added their second goal to leave us winners by 4 points 1 – 23 to 2 – 16.
