Our Senior Hurlers completed their series of preliminary games in the Red FM Senior Hurling League with a good win over Na Piarsaigh at Church Road on Sunday morning. This followed on from another impressive win over Killeagh on Monday last and our overall performance of 7 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss means that we finished a close second to Sarsfields with a total of m15 points, just 1 point behind them. Fr.O'Neills and Douglas were next on the list with 11 points each.
A large crowd turned up to watch the game which could hardly be described as a classic as it lacked any real competitive spirit throughout. Our boys were ahead at half time on a score of m1 – 09 to 1 – 03. A flurry of scores in the second half when we turned to play with the wind, yielded some good scores and midway through the half we were well ahead on a score of Rockies 2 – 15, Na Piarsaigh 1 – 06. Na Piarsaigh outscored us for the remainder of the game and tacked on a further 6 points to our 3 points. Tadhg Deasy was in sparkling form and finished with a total of 2 – 02. One of his goals was a brilliant piece of combined play involving Alan Connolly and Robbie Cotter before ending up with Tadhg who duly despatched the sliothar to the back of the net. Mike O'Halloran was another to catch the eye, who's overall contribution was 6 points. Robbie Cotter set the pattern for the second half with 2 quick points. Sean Healy at cornerback had his hands full with Na Piarsaigh's danger man O'Sullivan, but he acquitted himself well and did a fine man marking job on him.
Overall Scorers: Tadhg Deasy 2 – 02, Michael O'Halloran 0 – 06(03f), Robbie Cotter 0 – 02, Kevin O'Keeffe 0 – 02, Ian O'Keeffe 0 – 01, Mark O'Keeffe 0 – 01.
