Red FM Senior Hurling League

Thur. April 18th.

Blackrock 2 – 17 V Carrigtwohill 0 – 14 @ Carrig.

Report:  Roger Ryan

Our Senior Hurlers increased their league points tally to 6 following a very good win over Carrigtwohill at Carrig on Thursday evening and joined Charleville as joint leaders in their section. On a lovely evening for hurling and played on a well-appointed pitch, our boys were in sparkling form and played some lovely hurling for the entire game

Daniel Meaney set us on our way with an opening point and even though Carrig levelled with a point, Fionn Coleman soon had us back in front again with a great point. Carrig's next point brought them within a point of us again but this was as close as they came for the remainder of the game as our boys began to take control and hurl with great authority. P.J. Linehan (2), Daniel Meaney (1), Gavun Connolly (1), Lee O'Sullivan (1), and Kevin O'Keeffe (04), brought our half time score to 0 – 11. Carrig added 3 to their tally so the half-time score read Rockies 0 – 11, Carrigtwohill 0 – 05.

Carrig opened the second half with 2 points on the trot but our boys soon got back on track and following a point by Kevin, Niall Cashman rose highest in the mi9ddle of a mad scramble in front of goal to tap home our first goal. This put us 6 ahead 1 – 12 to 0 – 09. Ryan Sweeney pushed this to 7 with the next point and Kevin with the next 2 points had us leading by double scores 1 – 15 to 0 – 09. Shane O'Keeffe and Richie Laide were sprung from the bench at this point. Carrig reduced our lead with 2 frees, Kevin tacked on a point and Fionn Coleman put the issue beyond with a smashing goal. Carrig did manage the last 2 points and the game ended with the Rockies ahead by 9 points with the fi8nal score reading Rockies 2 – 17, Carrig 0 – 14. A good evening's work and a great result.
