Blackrock 1 – 18 V 0 – 21 Carrigtwohill @ Carrigtwohill.

Report by Roger Ryan

Our Senior Hurlers travelled to Carrogtwohill on Thursday evening and came home with a share of the spoils after a very exciting and competitive game against the local team. It was anything but a pleasant evening for hurling with a howling wind and rain but both teams made little of the conditions and served up a great game of fast open play and some excellent scores. Peter Linehan, who scored some great long-range points, opened the scoring for us following the first point by Carrig. Robbie Cotter and Fionn Coleman had a point each but Carrig playing with the wind had the next 4 points to push ahead 0 – 03 to 0 – 06.

Robbies next point was again answered by 2 from Carrig and when Robbie scored our next point Carrig replied with a further 2 to lead by double scores 0 – 05 to 0 – 10. A series of magical interplay then ended with Ian O'Keeffe receiving a beautiful pass and crashing the ball to the net for the only goal of the game. Peter Linehan then followed up with a point to leave the bare minimum between us 1 – 06 to 0 – 10 Carrig finished the first half with a flourish adding 2 further points to their tally and the half ended with Carrig 3 points ahead 1 – 06 to 0 – 12.

Stephen Murphy and David O'Farrell got us off to a great start with a point each but Carrig replied with 2 more to retain their 3 point lead. David O'Farrell, Ian O'Keeffe and Lee O'Sullivan added a point each to bring us back level at 1 – 11 to 0 – 14. Daniel Meaney and Mike O'Halloran were sprung from the bench and Daniel was soon in action scoring 2 points on the trot. Carrig were never too far away though and scores came rapidly on both sides. Approaching the final whistle, Carrig held a slender lead of 2 points 1 – 16 to 0 – 21 and it fell to Robbie to score first from a free followed by a point from play in injury time to finish out on level terms 1 – 18 to 0 – 21. Daniel Meaney 0 – 02,
