Senior Hurling League
Sun. April 16th.
Blackrock 1 – 11 V Sarsfields 2 – 23 @ Church road
Report: Roger Ryan
Following our two victories and one draw, our Senior Hurlers suffered their first defeat in the Red FM Senior Hurling League at the hands of Sarsfields at Church Road this morning.
Played before a sizable crowd on a well manicured main pitch, the weather was ideal for hurling and we were looking forward to a really competitive game. Sadly, for us, it didn't turn out that way, and once Sars established an early lead they never relinquished it and ran out easy winners in the end. Sars early run of 6 points was interrupted by an early point from Fionn Coleman who was making his debut at this level and acquitted himself well, adding a further goal and a point to his haul. Other scorers for us in the first half were, Kevin O'Keeffe 0 – 03, Robbie Cotter 0 – 01, Michael O'Halloran 0 – 01.
Half time score: Rockies 0 – 06. Sars: 1 – 12.
Our lack of scores continued in the second half although when Fionn Coleman scored our goal it put a better complexion on things and just left 9 points between us. However, disaster struck late in the game when Sars were awarded a penalty and Aaron Myers buried the ball for a goal to add to his already huge haul. Our scorers in this half were Fionn Coleman 1 – 01, Kevin O'Keeffe 0 – 04.
This was a serious setback after a good run so far in this competition, but it's early days yet and I've no dou8bt our boys will bounce back and resume their winning ways again.
Scorers: Kevin O'Keeffe 0 – 07(06f), Fionn Coleman 1 – 02, Robbie Cotter 0 – 01, Michael O'Halloran 0 – 01.
