Blackrock 1 – 18 V 0 – 22 St Finbarrs

Report by Roger Ryan

In a highly competitive and entertaining game of hurling in Togher on Sunday morning, the Barrs were declared winners by a point on a score of Rockies 1 – 18, Barrs 0 – 22. There was a lot of confusion regarding the score as the scoreboard kept breaking down and gave conflicting results throughout the second half.

The Barrs had 3 points on the board before Robbie Cotter got us off the mark with our first point. The Barrs had the next [point to go 3 ahead again. Michael O'Halloran with a sublime sideline cut had our second point and Ryan Sweeney swapped points with the Barrs to leave the score at 0 – 03 to 0 – 05. Kevin O'Keeffe and Robbie then had us back on level terms with a point each but the Barrs replied with 2 further points to lead again by 2. Our boys then went on a spree and Robbie (2), Ryan Sweeney(1), Mark O'Keeffe(1), Michael O'Halloran(1) and Robbie with a free, had us leading by 4 points with 30 minutes on the clock. The Barrs scored again just before the whistle and the Ref. Blew time with the half-time score reading Blackrock 0 – 11, St.Finbarrs 0 – 08.

The second half proved equally as competitive as the first with aregular exchange of scores and no goal yet on the board. Midway through the second half I had us a point ahead at 0 – 14 to 0 – 13 but following a malfunction of the board the score came back a 0 – 14 to 0 – 14.

Beginning with Ciarán Cormack at half time, we introduced a further 6 more subs. We had quite a large panel of players and it was great to see Dylan Stokes and Mark O'Keeffe back in the fold. Despite the loss, this was a great workout for the boys and will stand them in good stead for future games.
