 Blackrock 0 – 33 V 0 – 11 Douglas @ Ballyanley.

Report by Roger Ryan

At the well-prepared venue in Ballyanley on Sunday our Senior Hurlers scored an emphatic win over Douglas in the Premier Senior Hurling Championship. The final score of Rockies 0 – 33, Douglas 0 – 11, ensured that we would go straight to the semi-final stage where we will play the winners of Glen Rovers V Midleton.

Following 2 opening points by Kevin O'Keeffe and 1 point by Robbie Cotter, Douglas drew level with the next 3 points but thereafter our boys turned on the style and displaying some excellent teamwork, soon pushed ahead and finished the first half with a lead of 7 points, 0 – 15 to 0 – 8. Other scorers in this half were, Alan Connolly, Michael O'Halloran, Daniel Meaney.

Taking up from where they left off, our boys upped the tempo considerably and outscored Douglas by 18 points to 3 in the second half. A procession of points by Alan Connolly, Robbie Cotter, Michael O'Halloran, Kevin O'Keeffe, Niall Cashman, Fionn Coleman, Ciarán Cormack and Cathal Cormack made certain that we weren't going to lose this one. This was as good a performance as we have seen from the team in quite a while and was as good if not better than their game versus The Barrs a few weeks ago. The backline, particularly the half line wre outstanding and repelled everything that Douglas could throw at them. Gavin's long long puckouts were eagerly seized on by our excellent forwards who foraged tirelessly for the entire game and scored some excellent. They were also denied a couple of goals by the excellent goalkeeping of Donal Maher.
