Red FM Senior Hurling League

Sun. April 7th.

Blackrock 2 – 19 V Ballincollig 2 – 12. @ Church Road @ 11.30.

Report:  Roger Ryan

Following a spate of bad weather and the ravages of hurricane Kathleen, the sun made a welcome appearance at Church Road on Sunday morning for our Red FM Senior Hurling League game V Ballincollig. Thanks to some high winds and the sunshine, and some excellent preparative work by the grounds committee our pitch was in perfect condition for the game and held up well.

Without being overly impressive, our boys nevertheless proved too strong for Ballincollig and ran out easy winners on a score of Rockies 2 – 19, Ballincollig 2 – 12. A feature of the game was the number of new young players on the team who acquitted themselves well and I have no doubt some of them will feature prominently in future games. Some of the newer boys getting a run out were, Joe Golden, Diarmuid Cormack, P.J.Linehan, Ryan Sweeney, Fionn Coleman, Tom Grainger, Luke O'Donovan, Sean Healy, Lee O'Sullivan, and and Robbie Cotter made a welcome return to the squad. All in all, it was a very useful game for the team and mentors and of course we picked up 2 points in the process. We have now played 3 games and won 2m so that;s a satisfactory start to the campaign.

Our scorers were: Kevin O'Keeffe 0 – 10(06f), Robbie Cotter 0 – 05(02f), Niall Cashman 1 – 00, Ryan Sweeney 1 – 00, Fionn Coleman, Tom Grainger, P.J.Linehan and Daniel Meaney 0 – 01 each.

Half-time score: Rockies 1 – 13, Ballincollig 1 – 02.
