Following an impressive first-half display. we really should have been further ahead than the slender 2 points lead which we held. The scoreboard read Blackrock 0 – 14, Midleton 0 – 12, but this could just as easily have been several more points in our favour. However, our boys must have felt reasonably happy going in at the break.

Midleton with a free, struck first blood for a point but Kevin O'Keeffe soon had us back on level terms with a free of our own. A Midleton point was then answered by a point from Shane O'Keeffe to leave us deadlocked again at 0 – 02 each. Midleton pushed ahead with the next point but 2 points on the trot from Kevin O'Keeffe followed by a point by Alan Connolly had us 2 points ahead, 0 – 05 to 0 – 03. A Midleton point was answered by a point from Niall Cashman to keep us 2 ahead, 0 – 06 to 0 – 04. Midleton then came within a point with the next score, but Kevin, Cathal Cormack and Alan Connolly added a point each to give us a lead of 4 points, 0 – 09 to 0 – 05. Midleton then scored from a sideline and followed up with two converted frees to come within a point of us again, 0 – 09 to 0 – 08. Michael O'Halloran increased our lead to 2 points but Midleton with the next two points, were back on level terms again, 0 – 10 to 0 – 10. Kevin O'Keeffe and P.J.Linehan added ba point each to put us ahead by 2, 0 – 12 to 0 – 10. Midleton had the next 2 points to level up once more as bwe approached the break. Kevin from a free and Niall from play added the two points to put us in the lead as the Ref blew for half-time with the scoreboard reading Blackrock 0 – 14, Midleton 0 – 12.

Any thoughts we had of building on this lead were quickly dashed when Midleton came roaring into the second half and scored 6 points without reply and not only wiped out our lead of 2 points, but also went 4 points in front. Our boys never recovered from this body-blow and even the introduction of Tadhg Deasy after 10 minutes failed to stem the tide. The score now read Rockies 0 – 14, Midleton 0 – 18 and a point by Michael O'Halloran was answered by a similar score from Midleton to keep them ahead by 4 Points, 0 – 15 to 0 – 19. Alan Connolly and Tadhg Deasy added a point each to bring us within 2 points but Midleton with the next 2 points, soon had it back to a 4 point lead again, 0 – 17 to 0 – 21. Kevin did reduce it to 3 points but Midleton closed out the game with the last 2 points to end on a winning score of 0 – 18 to 0 – 23. Our second half return of 4 points certainly wasn't enough to win any game.
