Rockies 1 – 22 V 1 – 20 Glen Rovers @ Pairc Ui Rinn.
Report by Roger Ryan
Against all the pundits predictions, our Senior team, despite two late withdrawals and losing a player to a straight red after 25 minuets, managed to pull off a great win over Glen Rovers. In a game where the lead changed hands on a number of occasions, our boys never gave up and were rewarded with a fantastic win in a hectic finish to the line.
Trailing by the minimum at half time 0- 10 to 0 11, Michael O'Halloran soon had us back on level terms with the opening point of the second half. When Alan Connolly intercepted a pass and scored our goal it put us ahead by 3 points but our lead was short-lived as the Glen struck back for a goal also. They then went ahead by 3 points but our boys never gave up and when subs Kevin O'Keeffe and Ryan Sweeney scored a point each, Niall Cashman added his second point and we were now back on level terms with time running out. Gavin Connolly brought off some great saves and Cathal Cormack's timely intervention on Patrick Horgan prevented a likely goal. Alan Connolly, despite constant attention, finished the game with 1 – 10 and Robbie Cotter like a late blooming flower, really blossomed in the final quarter and his contribution of 3 points was immense. Michael O'Halloran was also on song and scored 3 points.
