A game that was well within our reach (we were ahead by 7 points at one stage) was suddenly snatched from our grasp by a late flurry from who scored 1 03 in the last few minutes to emerge winners by 4 points on a score of Rockies 1 – 23, Douglas 2 – 24.


The game opened at a very lively and competitive pace and both sides traded scores with Douglas going ahead 0 – 02 to 0 – 04 before being hauled back and we then went ahead. It was all square at 0-05 each, then we went ahead by 2 and Douglas again drew level at 07 each. After an exchange of scores it was level again at 0 – 10 each but we finished strongly and the first half ended with us 3 points ahead, 0 – 16 to 0 – 13. Our scorers in this half were, Kevin O'Keeffe 0 – 08, John O'Sullivan 0 – 02, Ciarán Cormack 0 – 02, Peter Linehan 0 – 02, Fionn Coleman 0 – 01, Robbie Cotter 0 – 01.


The second half opened brightly and following an opening point by Kevin, Robbie waltzed through the defence to score a piledriver of a goal. With the score now at 1 – 17 to 0- 13 we enjoyed a nice lead of 7 points. Douglas added a point, and we introduced subs Ryan Sweeney, Tadgh Deasy and later Niall Cashman and Lee O'Sullivan. We were still 7 points ahead at 1 – 20 to 0 – 16, but from there on Douglas began to get a grip on the game and werr soon level at 1 – 21 each. We were level again at 1 – 23 each, but then Douglas struck for their second goal and added a point to forge ahead by 4 points and the game ended at 1 – 23 to 2 – 24..
