Lough Rovers 0-13 Blackrock 1-13 @ Páirc an Locha

Report By Peter Devine:

A nice mild evening greeted the teams under the whistle of Cathal Egan. Blackrock got off the mark with an early point by Eoin Browne. Very quickly Lough Rovers equalized, followed by a point from James Allen from a free. The Lough soon regained the lead, scoring three points on the trot. Mistakes were happening all over a pitch which was in poor condition. Luke Fogerty, James Allen and Paddy Lynch added further points, while Lough added four more points. Getting close to half time, Darren Griffen and Barry Grainger closed the gap with points, only for Lough Rovers to finish the scoring with two more, to lead 0-10 to 0-7 at the break.

The second half saw an improved performance from the Rockies. The defence tightened up, chased and harried their opponents relentlessly, as the Lough only managed three points in this half. At the other end, James Allen, Paddy Lynch and Conor Sweeney worked tirelessly, with Conor Sweeney scoring the all-important goal to equalize the scores in the 49th minute, to add to a point early in the second half. James Allen scored a great point from a “65” shortly after the start of the half and added three more from play before the end. Paddy Lynch also pointed in this half.
