Blackrock 3 – 22 V 3 – 11 Mayfield @ Ballinlough.

Following a high – scoring game of top-class hurling, our Junior 3 hurlers emerged victorious over Mayfield at Ballinlough on Sunday evening. The final score was Rockies 3 – 22, Mayfield 3 – 11. Lorcán De Búrca got us up and running with a point from the throw-in and this was quickly followed by a billowing goal from Dave Garvan who then added a point to give us a lead of 1 – 02 to 0 – 0. Mayfield's first point was quickly answered by a point from Ronan Lydon and Mayfield's next point was also equalled by Peter Cotter to leave the score at Rockies 1 – 04, Mayfield 0 – 02 with just 6 minutes on the clock. Mayfield then scored their first goal and this was followed by a point each from Lorcán De Búrca and Brian O'Leary. With the clock reading 12 minutes, Dave Garvan bagged his second goal and this was followed by a point from Brian O'Leary to push us 8 points ahead. Rockies 2 – 07, Mayfield 1 – 02.

Mayfields next point was followed by a point from Brian O'Leary to restore our 8 points advantage. Mayfield then went on an all-out attack scoring 2 points, then a goal and a further goal to draw level with us at 2 – 08 to 3 05 with 28 minutes elapsed. Peter Cotter with a point gave us a slender lead of a point as the Ref blew half time.

The second half started with Mayfield equalising again but Conor Casey and Brian O'Leary soon had us 2 ahead with a point each. Mayfield's next point was answered by a point from Brian O'Leary and Matfield then added a point to leave the score at Rockies 2 – 12, Mayfield 3 – 08. Lorcán added a point and this was followed by a long-range free from our goalie David O'Shea to give us a lead of 3 points with 15 minutes to go. This lead was increased to 6 points courtesy of a point each from Brian O'Leary, Ronan Lydon and Cormac Casey. The score now read Rockies 2 – 17, Mayfield 3 – 08. Mayfield reduced our lead to 4 with 2 points but our boys then struck with a vengeance and tacked on a further 1 – 05 without reply from Mayfield.

Peter Cotter scored a goal, Brian O'Leary 1 point, Peter Cotter 1 point, Vaughan Ryan 2points followed by another point from Brian O'Leary, to bring our total to 3 – 22. Mayfield had the last word with a closing point to bring their total to 3 – 11.
