Junior Hurling County Semi Final (B)

Sun. Nov. 23rd 2025

Blackrock 2 – 13 V 2 – 15 Dungourney @ 4G Pitch Pairc Uí Chaoimh

Report: Roger Ryan

Our Junior B Hurlers were narrowly defeated by Dungourney in the semi-final of the Championship at the 4G Pitch, Pairc Uí Chaoimh on Sunday night on a score of Rockies 2 – 13, Dungourney 2 – 15.

Played under lights on a cold and showery evening, the game turned out to be a cracker between two very fit and committed teams. The standard of hurling was excellent as both reams gave of their best in search of victory and the result was in doubt right up to the   end. Playing against the wind in the first half, Alex Geary had our opening point. Dungourney's opening point was followed by a point each from Adam O'Callaghan, Alex Geary and Brian O'Leary to giove us an early lead of 3 points, 0 –04 to 0 – 01. Dungourney with 2 points then reduced our lead to the minimum before Ronan Lydon put us 2 ahead again with a fine point. Dungourney then took the lead following 3 points to leave the score at 0 – 05 to 0 – 06. Adam O'Callaghan with a goal and Brian O'Leary with a point, soon had bus leading again, 1 – 06 to 0 – 06 with 20 minutes elapsed. Dungourney the replied with a point, followed by a goal and a further point to push ahead by 2 points. Brian O'Leary converted a free for a point to leave us trailing by a solitary as the Ref blew for half time. The scoreboard read, Rockies 1 – 07, Dungourney 1 – 08.

Our goalie David O'Shea soon had us back on level terms again with a mighty long-range free. Adam O'Callaghan swapped points with Dungourney to leave the score level again at 1 – 09 each and then he added a further point to push us ahead by a point. Dungourney then struck a productive patch with 2 points followed by a goal and 2 points surged ahead by 6 points, 1 – 10 to 2 – 13. Alex Geary then crashed home a goal  and this was followed by 2 points from Riain O'Riordan to reduce their lead to 1 point, 2 – 12 to 2 – 13. The race was on to the finish line now. Dungourney pushed their lead to 3 points before Riain O'Riordan had it back to 2 points with a late free. Try as we may and despite our best efforts we failed to get the last few scores and the Ref blew full time with Dungourney ahead by 2 points, 2 – 13 to 2 – 15.

Great credit is due to our boys, not just for this game, but for the effort they have put in throughout the entire championship, having won the City League League and Championship.

Our thanks is due to them for keeping us involved in competitive hurling so late in the year.
