Report:  Roger ryan

Our Junior Hurlers travelled to Whites Cross on Tuesday evening and following a wholehearted and determined display of gritty hurling, came home with another 2 League points in the bag.

James Allen, who was in sparkling form, got us off to an early lead with a point and followed up with a further 5 in the first half. Whites Cross kept in touch with us for most of the half and went ahead by 2 points at5 one stage. But our boys fought back and with the score at Rockies 0 – 09, Whites Cross 1 – 05, Jack O'Farrell scored our first goal. James Allen added a point and with time running out, Luke Fogarty crashed home our second goal to leave the score at Rockies 2 – 10, Whites Cross 1 – 05.

Scorers in this half were, James Allen 0 – 07, Jack O'Farrell 1 – 01, Luke Fogarty 1 – 00,

Eoin Browne 0 – 01, Daragh Murphy 0 – 01, Paddy Lynch 0 – 01.

Turning to play against5 a very strong sun and the breeze for the second half, our boys knew they were in for a tough half, but each player respo9nded well to the task in hand and held out for a great victory. Whites Cross opened brightly and had 2 points on the board before Robert Cregan put an end to their gallop- with a point. A Whites Cross point was soon answered by 2 on the trot from James Allen. Midway through the half they were awarded a penalty which Darragh saved but they did score the next 2 points to bring the score to 2 – 13 to 1 – 10.

A James Allen point was soon followed by 2 from Whites Cross before Paddy Lynch had our lead back to 6 points again with a point, 2 – 15 to 1 – 12. Whites Cross then added a point from a free and with time running out were awarded their second penalty. Darragh made a valiant effort to save it and though he got his hurley to it, it spun off into the net to bring them within 2 points of us before the Ref called for full time. Our excellent return in the first half certainly stood to us in the end and we came home with our third win out of three.

Scorers in this half were, James Allen 0 – 03, Robert Cregan 0 – 01, Paddy Lynch 0 – 01.
