Blackrock 1-11 Whitechurch 2-19 @ Church Road

Report By Peter Devine:

On very cold and sunny morning, we greeted Seandun 2024 junior hurling champions to Church Road. The game started in a lively fashion, and after four minutes Whitechurch went in front with a point. Shortly after, Jack O’Farrell equalized with fine point. Then Whitechurch got the upper hand with three quick points. Not to be outdone, back came our lads with the next four points, two from James Allen, (frees), and one each from Paddy Lynch and Luke Fogerty. Almost immediately, Whitechurch went in front with a goal, and then added a further three points by midway through the half. From here to half time, Whitechurch were on top, scoring a further six points, with Blackrock replying with points from James Allen and James Walsh, leaving Whitechurch in front 1-13 to 1-7 at the break.

Robert Creegan and Kevin Morgan were brought on the resumption. The second half began with both defences very tight. as it took nine minutes before the first score, a point from a James Allen free. Soon after, Whitechurch opened up a bigger gap, by scoring a goal and two points by the sixteenth minute. With eight minutes to go, Blackrock pulled back three points, Luke Fogerty, Paddy Lynch and James Allen on target. However, Whitechurch finished stronger and deserved victory.
