Blackrock 1 – 16 V Brian Dillons 1 – 11..

Report:  Roger Ryan

The beaming sun had reached it's zenith and shone it's brilliant rays on the spacious Pairc Na Brian Diolunaigh as our Junior Hurlers celebrated a great victory over the home team Brian Dillons, in the AOS Security J.H.League 2A. The fi8nal score of Rockies 1 – 16, Brian Dillons 1 – 11, was just reward for a great team performance and wholehearted effort by all concerned.

Playing against a slight breeze in the first half, our boys took control from the beginning and began to pick off some fine scores. David Garvan, Fionn O'Keeffe and James Allen had our opening points and Brian Dillons has levelled with us at this point, but Brian Lynch who was having a stormer at cenre-field, soon had us ahead with 2 excellent points on the trot, to leave the score at Rockies 0 – 05, Brian Dillons 0 – 03. Then, Fionn O'Keeffe, who was causing problems in the corner, rounded his marker and almost broke the crossbar with a rasper that finished in the back of the net to give us a nice cushion of 5 points with the clock showing 20 minutes elapsed. Robert Cregan, displaying boundless energy, then soloed up field and added a further point. With the score now reading 1 – 06 to 0 – 04, Luke Fogarty, Dave Garvan, Jack O'Sullivan and Dave Garvan again, all decided to get in on the act and scored as half ti9me approached. That left us with a score of 1 – 10 and Brian Dillons had added a further 4 points to finish the half with 0 – 08.

Scores from play dried up considerably in the second half and we were totally reliant on frees from James Allen who, thankfully had brought his scoring hurley with him and scored a total of 6 points including 2 from 65s. Thanks to a resolute defence, well marshalled by Sean Cormack and a brilliant Dara O'Brien, Brian Dillons were limited to a return of 1 – 03 and so the game ended with our boys ahead by 5 points. Top marks to the entire team for a great effort and a well-deserved win.
