Junior B Hurling League Final
Sun. July 16th. @ Ballinlough

Blackrock 2 – 18 V St.Finbarrs 1 – 25

Report:  Roger Ryan

Following a marathon game of hurling which included extra time, our junior Hurlers lost out by 4 points to The Barrs in the final of the league at Ballinlough on Sunday morning on a score of Rockies 2 – 18, Barrs 1 – 25.

In a low-scoring first half, the teams were level on five occasions and finished the half at 0 – 08 each. The Barrs took control midway through the second half and looked likely winners when they were ahead by 6 points 0 – 10 to 0 – 16, but our boys showed great resilience and clawed their way back to not only level up, but go a point ahead with time up. However, The Barrs were awarded a free which they converted to level again at 2 – 13 to 0 – 19 on the stroke of time. At half time in extra time the teams were still deadlocked at Rockies 2 – 17, The Barrs 0 – 23. We only managed to add a further point to our score in reply to The Barrs 1 – 02, and thus ended up losing by 4 points, 2 – 18 to 1 – 25. Full marks to all concerned for a great hearted effort. The game was within our grasp, particularly in the first half, but a strong finish by The Barrs in extra time got them over the line. Full marks to both teams for a most entertaining and skilful game of hurling.
