Blackrock 1 – 19 V 2 – 19 St. Finbarr’s @ Togher.

Our Junior Hurlers travelled to Togher on Wed. evening and despite putting in a sterling performance were unlucky not to at least share the points. Our first half performance, against a wind and setting sun, was excellent and we finished the half with a nice lead of a goal, 1 – 09 to 0 – 09. No fewer than six players contributed to our score namely, Dave Garvan 1 – 01, Luke Fogarty 0 – 02, James Allen 0 – 02(01f), Hugh Espy 0 – 02, Peter Cotter 0 – 01, Jack O'Farrell 0 – 01. During the game we introduced a new player to the team, Cian Coughlan, and he looks a promising addition to the squad.

James Allen converted a free to increase our lead to 4 points at the start of the second half and for the next 15 minutes it was pretty much tit for tat with the Barrs edging ever closer and chipping away at our lead. They eventually got thorough for the first of their 2 goals and drew level with us at 1 – 13 each. We went ahead by 2 points before they came back to level again at 1 – 15 to 1 – 15. With about 10 minutes to go, The Barrs scored their second goal and added a point to forge ahead by 4 points. Despite our best efforts and trading scores, we were unable to get that important goal which proved to be the difference when the Ref blew for full time. Our progress to-date in this competition has been excellent and this setback will prove to be a spur to greater things for the future.
