Rockies 2 – 11 V 0 – 08 Rathpeacon @ Rathpeacon
Report By Roger Ryan:
Our Junior2 Hurlers had an impressive win over Rathpeacon at Rathpeacon on Wednesday evening in the semi-final of the Craobh Rúa Cup. An early point by James Walsh and Paddy Lynch was following by our opening goal from Captain Luke Fogarty. Luke stole a march on the unsuspecting backline when he drilled a free to the back of the net instead of opting for an easy point. He then scored a point to bring the score to 1 – 03 to 0 – 02.
Paddy Lynch was causing all sorts of problems close to goal and despite the attentions of at least three defenders, managed to extricate himself from the mellee and crash the sliothar to the net for our second goal giving us an early lead of 7 points, 2 – 03 to 0 – 02.
Rathpeacon reduced our lead to 4 with the next 3 points before Robert Cregan added a point for us. Rathpeacon's next point was matched by Luke Fogarty to bring the first half to a close on a score of Rockies 2 – 05, Rathpeacon 0 – 06.
The second half proved to be an equally energy sapping encounter due to the high temps, but both sides coped well with the conditions and served up a high standard of play. Our boys were full of running and added a further 6 points to their tally and limited Rathpeacon to a further 2 points. Scorers in this half were: Peter Leneghan 0 – 02, Luke Fogarty 0 – 03, and Darragh Murphy who added a mighty long-range free.
Scorers: Luke Fogarty 1 – 05(Goal, 03f), Paddy Lynch 1 – 01, Peter Leneghan 0 – 02, James Walsh 0 – 01, Robert Cregan 0 – 01, Darragh Murphy 0 – 01(01f).
