Blackrock 1 – 15 V Whitechurch 1 – 12 @ Church Road.

Following an outstanding display of top-class hurling, our Junior Hurlers pulled off a mighty victory over Whitechurch at Church Road on Tuesday evening. Both teams coped well with the poor weather conditions and served up an exciting game of hurling.

We certainly had the better of the exchanges in the first half and finished 7 points ahead on a score of Rockies 1 – 07, Whitechurch 0 – 04. Our scorers in this half were: Eoin Coughlan 0 – 04(04f), James Allen 1 – 01, Diarmuid Cormack 0 – 01, Peter Leneghan 0 – 01, Paddy Lynch 0 – 01.

The second half turned out to be a much closer affair as Whitechurch began to chip away at our lead. Thanks to some pointed frees by Eoin Coughlan we managed to stay nicely ahead until midway through the half when Whitechurch scored a goal to come within 2 points of us 1 – 11 to 1 – 09. Whitechurch then scored the next 3 points to draw level but our boys found hidden reserves at this stage and in a flurry of excitement Eoin Coughlan scored 2 points from frees and Diarmuid Cormac made things safe with the last point of the game and we were glad to hear the Ref blow for full time.
