St. Vincents 2-10 Blackrock 4-15 @ Páirc Uinsinn
Report By Peter Devine:
On a bitterly cold clear evening, our lads were superior to the home side for most of the game. The first half began with four points in the opening seven minutes, from James Allen (3), and Paddy Lynch. St. Vincents then began to settle and scored the next three. Fortunes changed in favour of Blackrock next as James Allen, Hugh Epsey and Peter Cotter added a point each.
From the 16th. to the 26th. minutes, St. Vincents registered four points, with James Allen and Jack O’Farrell adding a point each in this period. Paddy Lynch scored a great goal following great teamwork before the break, with St. Vincents having the final score with a point, as the half time score was Blackrock 1-9 St. Vincents 0-6.
Peter Cotter opened the second half scoring with a point, soon followed by a goal from a long range free by Paul O’Brien. Almost immediately St. Vincents came back with a goal and a point to bring the lead back to six points. Blackrock then put the game beyond doubt scoring a goal and two pints by the midway of the second half. Jack O’Farrell with the goal and James Allen and Hugh Epsey with the points. James Allen went off injured shortly after, as Paddy Lynch took over free taking duties, with three more points. St. Vincents scored three points also.
A late St. Vincents goal was cancelled out by Jack O’Farrell scoring his second goal of the night. The Rockies defence as a unit were strong throughout.
