Delany’s 1-12 Blackrock 0-17 @ Kilbarry
Report By Peter Devine:
Beautiful warm spring afternoon saw our lads open their league campaign with a hard-earned win. It didn’t seem like that in the first half, as BlackRock were on top for most of the half. Darragh Murphy with two and Seán O’Riordan with one, us had three points to nil up after 8 minutes.
Delany’s pulled back a point, but Mikey Whelan and Darragh Murphy got our next two points. Blackrock kept up the pressure, and Lorcan de Búrca, Hugh Epsey and Eoin Browne followed up with points.
Denis Moran got our last point of the half, sandwiched between two Delany’s points, leaving Blackrock in front at half time, 0-9 to 0-4, all Delany’s points coming from frees.
As the second half began, Eoin Browne and Darragh Murphy with two, extended the lead to eight points. Delany’s then got another point from a free, but Darragh Murphy and Hugh Epsey got a point each, followed by two points from Delany’s, including their first from play.
Lorcan de Búrca and Scott O’Sullivan cancelled out those scores with points of their own. With less than ten minutes to go, Delany’s took control, with again some easy frees. Theyscored a goal and four points to close the gap to a single point. A point in the final minutefor the Rockies, made it a two-point win.
