Blackrock 0 – 17 V Glen Rovers 2 – 18 @ Church Road.
Report By Roger Ryan:
The honour of opening the new season and playing the first competitive game at Church Road for 2026 goes to our Junior Hurlers who hosted Glen Rovers in the first round of the AOS Junior Hurling League 2 on Wednesday night under lights.
Despite the earliness of the season, the game turned out to a cracker with both sides showing a remarkable degree of skill and fitness. The pitch was in excellent condition thanks to the hard work of the Grounds Comm.
A point each by Kyle Leahy and Jack O'Farrell put us ahead before the Glen replied with 4 points on the trot to lead by 2. Vaughan Ryan with 2, and James Walsh and Cathal Casey with a point each then had us leading again 0 – 06 to 0 – 04. The Glen countered with a point and then added a goal to forge ahead by 2 points. Kyle Leahy added a point for us but the Glen responded with 1 – 04 to lead by double scores 2 – 08 to 0 – 07. Kyle Leahy swapped points with the Glen, and Hugh Espey lost his hurley but managed to kick over a point.
Kyle Leahy closed out the first half with our 10th point and the Glen finished with 2 – 11.
Playing with a slight breeze in the second half, Darragh Browne reduced their lead to 6 points with the opening point for us. The Glen added 2 more points to lead by 9, 2 – 14 to 0 – 11.
Darragh Browne, Robbie O'Brien, Vaughan Ryan and Ronan Lydon tacked on a point each to bring us within 5 points of the Glen, 0 – 15 to 2 – 14. The Glen had the next 2 points to extend their lead to 7 again 0 – 15 to 2 – 16. Darragh Browne had it back to 6 again with a fine point.
Darragh's converted 65 was sandwiched by a point on either side by the Glen to leave them winners at the final whistle by 7 points on a score of 0 – 17 to 2 – 18.
