Blackrock 3 – 17 V 1 – 10 Courcey Rovers @ Church Road
Report by Roger Ryan
A game that had all the ingredients to be a real competitive affair turned out to be a one-sided game in the end as our Intermediate team proved to be far superior to Courcey Rovers in their league game at Church Road on Saturday afternoon, eventually winning by a margin of 10 points 3 – 17 to 1 – 10 with Courceys scoring a consolation goal close to full time.
Blackrock needed the win to retain their status and Courceys needed it to ensure passage to the final stages of the league.
The game opened lively enough and playing with a slight breeze, our boys were quickly off the mark and by the 15th minute were ahead by 7 points 1 – 08 to 0 – 04. Our goal came via a great ground stroke by Eoin O'Farrel which whizzed into the back of the Courceys net. Returned Kiwi Michael O'Halloran was in sparkling form and ended the half with a personal tally of 1 – 06. Other scorers in this half were Eoin O'Farrell 1 – 03, John O'Sullivan 0 – 02, Luke O'Donovan 0 – 01.
The expected surge from Courceys, who now had the wind, never materialised and our boys continued to outrun and out-hurl them in every position. Following some energetic bursts in the first half, John O'Sullivan continued his energetic display and on the 40th minute scored a great goal. Eoin O'Farrell with 3 points, John O'Halloran and Ross Coleman completed the scoring with a point each.to bring our second half tally to 1 – 05.
Our entire backline was in devastating form and made life very difficult for the Courceys attack. Our total return of 3 - 17 was a just return for the combined eRoss Coleman 0 – 01.fforts of our forwards who were in sparkling form and hungry for scores.
