 Blackrock 1 – 21 V 1 – 12 Mallow @ Church Road.

Our Intermediate Hurlers collected their first points in the current league with a fantastic victory over Mallow at Church Road on Saturday afternoon. Played in brilliant sunshine, the game was a real cracker from start to finish. Fielding our strongest team to date, our boys were in brilliant form and playing against the wind in the first half, matched the Mallow boys score for score and finished the half trailing by a single point, 0 – 10 to 1 – 08.

We opened up with a real flourish and had 5 points on the board before Mallow registered their first point. Our opening points came from Lee O'Sullivan 2 and 1 each from Ciarán Cormack, Sean Healy and Jack O'Farrell. Midway through the half we were still leading by 3 points, 0 – 08 to 0 – 05 when Mallow scored a goal to draw level. From there to the short whistle it was score for score with Mallow edging ahead by a point on the stroke of time.

Our scorers in this half were, Lee O'Sullivan 0 – 02, Sean Healy 0 – 02, Fionn O'Keeffe 0 – 02, Ciaran Cormack 0 – 02, Jack O'Farrell 0 – 01, Ian O'Keeffe 0 – 01.

Two subs Alex Geary and Connor Coakley were introduced for the second half and Eoin O'Farrell soon had us up and running with 4 points and Ciaran Cormack with 1 point to put us in the lead by 4 points, 0 – 15 to 1 – 08. Mallow then added 2 points but our boys countered with a vengeance and added 3 points, 1 each from Eoin, Diarmuid and Rian Riordan. The score now read Rockies 0 – 18, Mallow 1 – 10. Mallow's next point was soon equalled by a point from Diarmuid Cormack. With the score now at 0 – 19 to 1 – 11 and about 10 minutes remaining, we were awarded a penalty. Our goalie Ross Browne strolled up the field and confidently buried the ball in the back of the Mallow net to give us a commanding lead of 8 points, 1 – 19 to 1 – 11. Eoin O'Farrell then added 2 more points and Mallow had the closing point before the Ref blew for full time and brought to a close a most satisfactory win for our gallant intermediate team.
