Blackrock 1 – 18 V 1 – 13 Castlelyons @ Church Road @ 19.30 (Under Lights ).

Report:  Roger ryan

Our Intermediate hurlers got their current league campaign off to a flying start when they overcame a strong challenge from Castlelyons at windswept Church Road on Tuesday night, to emerge winners by 5 points on a score of Rockies 1 – 18, Castlelyons 1 – 13.

Playing against a strong wind in the first half, our boys put in a sterling shift with the backline particularly prominent. Richie Laide looked like a man in training for the Olympics with his regular forays up the field, feeding the eager forwards who took full advantage of the supply and finished the half with 1 – 10 to Castlelyons 1 – 06.

Young Eoin Coughlan got us off to an early start with a neat point and this was followed by a similar score from lively John O'Sullivan. :ee O'Sullivan and Eoin O'Farrell then got into the act with a point each to put us 4 points ahead Castlelyons had their first point. Fionn Coleman increased our lead by a point before crashing home a goal to leave the scoreboard reading Rockies 1 – 05, Castlelyons 0 – 01 with just 10 minutes on the clock. Castlelyons then scored a goal to leave it at 1 – 05 to 1 – 01. Our next point came from Fionn Coleman and Castlelyons replied with a point to leave the score at Rockies 1 – 06 to 1 – 02. Eoin O'Farrell's pointed free was then answered by a similar score from Castlelyons before Eoin Coughlan stretched our lead with another point. Eoin O'Farrell pointed a free and Castlelyons came back with a similar score to now leave the score at 1 – 09 to 1 – 04. Eoin Coughlan swapped point's with Castlelyons and Castleyons then closed out the half with 2 points on the trot before Ref Pat Lyons called for half time. The scoreboard now read

Rockies 1 – 10, Castlelyons 1 – 06.

Following an impressive display against a strong wind in the first half, it was confidently expected the second half to pan out in a similar way, but our boys seemed to take their foot off the pedal and allowed Castlelyons back into the game. Eoin @Farrell had our opening point from a free but Castlelyons came back with 2 points on the trot to leave just 3 between us 1 – 11 to 1 – 08. The twin threat of the Eoin's (O'Farrell & Coughlan) then added a point each to which Ian O'Keeffe also added a point to push us ahead by 6 points 1 – 14 to 1 – 08. James Walsh, Eoin O'Farrell and Richie Laide each added a point to push us 9 ahead 1 – 17 to 1 – 08. Castlelyons pointed a free but Eoin O'Farrell also added a point to retain our 9 points advantage at 1 – 18 to 1 – 09. Jack O'Brien and David Garvan then trotted out to do their bit. Castlelyons came back strongly with 3 points on the trot. Luke Fogarty entered the fray at this stage nd Castlelyons had the final point to leave us nicely ahead by 5 points on a final score of Rockies 1 – 18, Castlelyons 1 – 13.

Job well done and 2 points in the bag. Our next game is away to Inniscarra and is fixed for 15.00 at their venue, but always check time and date before travelling to any game.
