Blackrock 0 – 20 V 1 – 21 Kilworth @ Church Road
Report by Roger Ryan
Our Intermediate Hurlers began their campaign with a game against Kilworth at Church Road on Tuesday and though they lost by 4 points they certainly gave a good account of themselves and should prove to be a force this year when they get a few more games under their belts.
In a very evenly contested first half, the lead fluctuated between the sides before we finished with a flourish to lead at half time on a score Rockies 0 – 10, Kilworth 0 – 08.
Eoin Coughlan's accurate free taking earned us 8 points and Fionn O'Keeffe and Eoin O'Farrell scored the other 2 points,
The second half continued in a similar vein but a goal by Kilworth midway through was to prove the difference in the end. Kilworth did threaten a few more goals but Ross Browne was in rare form and stopped some raspers. We were trailing by 5 points at one stage but our boys clawed their way back and had it back to 3 points coming to a close but Kilworth had the final say with a point which gave them a final of 4 points.
The selectors had a large panel of players available and introduced several subs in the second half. Connor Coakley had an impressive debut at this level, scoring 2 points.
James Allen and Alex Geary also came on late in the game and scored a point each.
The other scorers in this half were Eoin Coughlan, Diarmuid Cormack, Eoin O'Farrell and Sean Healy.
