 Blackrock 3 – 16 V 4 – 13 Youghal @ Cobh.

By securing a draw with Youghal at Cobh on Saturday our Intermediate team avoided a relegation play-off as we had a higher scoring average than Youghal and so retained our status as Intermediate A team. This turned out to be a very high-scoring game with our boys leading until the last minute when Youghal scored their fourth goal to draw level.

The opening half proved to be very productive for our boys and midway through we had built up a lead of 7 points 2 – 05 to 1 – 01. From then to half-time, following an exchange of points, our lead was reduced to 5 points and the score at the short whistle was Rockies 2 – 08, Youghal 1 – 06. Our scorers in this half were, Eoin Coughlan 0 – 04, Tom Grianger 1 – 00, Dean Mc Carthy 1 – 00, Lee O'Sullivan 0 – 02, Sean Healy 0 – 02.

Eoin Coughlan got us off and running in the second half with 2 early points and when Ian O'Keeffe scored our third goal to put us ahead by 10 points, 3 – 10 to 1 – 06. Shortly after that with the score now at 3 – 12 to 1 – 08, Youghal really began to get a grip on the game and went on a scoring spree which yielded 1 – 04 without reply. The score now stood at 3 – 12 to 2 – 12 and when we pushed our lead to 4 points Youghal hit back with a goal to reduce our lead to the minimum 3 – 14 to 3 – 13. Two further points by Eoin Coughlan had us leading by 3 with time almost up. In a late surge by Youghal an attack was waved wide by the umpire but after consulting with his umpires the Ref ordered a 65 which ultimately finished in the back of the net for their fourth goal and the Ref blew full-time with the scores level on 3 – 16 to 4 – 13. Our scorers in the second half were, Eoin Coughlan 0 – 07, Ian O'Keeffe 1 – 00, John O'Sullivan 0 – 01.
