Our Intermediate Hurlers completed a double of victories for our club this weekend with a resounding win over Bandon in the first round of the A Championship at Ballymaw, Waterfall Following an impressive display of skilful hurling our boys took the lead early on and never looked back. Bandon had the opening point but this was quickly followed by an alert Tom Grainger who pounced for a great goal. Robert Cregan made a dash up the field and his powerful shot was parried by the Bandon keeper and the rebound was smashed to the net by Tom Grainger. Thia gave us an early lead which we were never to relinquish. Lee O'Sullivan, Colin O'Leary and John O'Sullivan then added a point each to show us leading by 5 points with 15 minutes elapsed, 1 – 03 to 0 – 01. Bandon struck back for 3 points on the trot but 2 points by Eoin O'Farrell and 1 point by Sean Healy restored our lead to 5 points. Bandon closed out the first half with a point to leave the score at half time Blackrock 1 – 06, Bandon 0 – 05.
The second half began with a similar performance from Tom Grainger when he smashed a rebound to the net for his second goal. This gave us a nice lead of 7 points, 2 – 06 to 0 – 05 as we faced the second half. Bandon reduced that lead to 5 with 2 points but that was soon pushed back up to 9 points when Sean Healy rattled the net for our third goal. With time running out the score now stood at Rockies 3 – 07, Bandon 0 – 07. Bandon did score a late point but this was cancelled out by a point by Eoin Coughlan to leave the final score at 3 – 08 to 0 – 08.
