Playing an exciting and skilful game of hurling, our Intermediate team scored a decisive win over Bishopstown in a League game at Church Road on Saturday afternoon.
Played in brilliant sunshine on an expertly prepared pitch, the game started out a real lively affair with our boys finishing with a flourish in the final quarter.
The first half seemed destined to end in stalemate until James Walsh pounced for a goal on the stroke of time and gave us some breathing space before facing the second half. The half time score read Rockies 1 – 10, Bishopstown 0 – 08.
Our scorers in this half were, Eoin Coughlan 0 – 04, James Walsh 1 – 00, Alex Geary 0 – 02, Ian O'Keeffe 0 – 02, Peter Linehan 0 – 01, Fionn O'Keeffe 0 – 01.
Bishopstown were first off the mark in the second half but Eoin Coughlan with 3 points and Peter Linehan with a point soon had us ahead by 8 points, 1 – 14 to 0 – 09. Bishopstown's next 2 points were quickly followed by 2 points from Eoin Coughlan. Bishopstown added 3 points, Peter Linehan added a point for us and Eoin Coughlan scored a goal to push us ahead by 9 points, 2 – 17 to 0 – 14.
Ciarán Cormack and Peter Cotter added a point each to bring our total to an impressive 2 – 19. Our backline as a unit performed heroically and limited the opposing forwards to scoring from long range and from frees as well as providing excellent cover for our goalkeeper Ross Browne.
