Intermediate Hurling League
Sun. April 2nd

Blackrock 1 – 16 V Carrigaline 1 – 20 @ Church Road

Report:  Roger ryan

Our Intermediate hurlers suffered their first defeat in the Red FM (Div 3) League at Church Road all-weather pitch this morning when they lost out to a strong Carrigaline team. On a beautiful sunny Sunday morning, the game turned out to ba a cracker with the lead changing hands several times throughout the hour. Despite the fact that several of of our players had also played against Douglas in the Senior league the previous day, it certainly didn't impair their performance and each of them turned in a great game. This was their fourth game in this competition, having won the previous three, so we are well positioned in the League table. It was nip and tuck in the first half and we had a 2 point lead in the second quarter before Carrigaline recovered and the half ended all square at 0 – 08 to 0 – 08. Ryan Sweeney operating at full-forward set us on our way with an early point but Carrigaline soon levelled with a point of their own. Ryan Sweeney then converted a 65 for a good point and David O'Farrell chipped in with a point to push us ahead by 2 points. Carrigaline with the next 4 points on the trot, then took the lead by 2 points. Ryan Sweeney and Darraghj Browne wiped out this lead and Tom Grainger and Ryan Sweeney then pushed us ahead again by 2 points 0 – 07 to 0 – 05. Carrigaline and Eoin O'Farrell exchanged points to restore our 2 points advantage but Carrigaline finished strongly and levelled up before the referee blew for half time with the (new) scoreboard reading Rockies 0 – 08, Carrigaline 0 – 08.

Richie Laide and Kevin O'Keeffe were introduced for the second half and point's by Ryan Sweeney, Darragh Browne and Ian O'Keeffe soon had us ahead by 3 points 0 – 11 to 0 – 08. Carrigaline with 4 points on the trot then pushed ahead by a point 0 – 11 to 0 – 12. Ollie Mc Adoo was then introduced into the fray but Carrigaline pushed ahead with the next 4 points to gain a sizeable lead of 5 points 0 – 11 to 0 – 16 before we introduced Dave Cashman as our next sub. Kevin O'Keeffe reduced the lead with a point but Carrigaline struck again for 2 points to push ahead by 6 points 0 – 12 to 0 – 18. Kevin again reduced that lead by a point and Ross Browne made his appearance for us. Eoin O'Farrel snatched a goal to come within 2 points of Carrigaline and Kevin reduced that lead to the minimum with a point 1 – 14 to 0 – 18. Kevin's next point was sandwiched between 2 form Carrigaline to push them 2 points ahead 1 – 15 to 0 – 20. Kevin then reduced that lead to the minimum again with a pointed free but in a last raid Carrigaline finally got through for a goal to seal victory and leave the final score at Rockies 1 – 16, Carrigaline 1 – 20.
